Sabbir Rahman ton in vain as Barisal clinch thriller

Rajshahi Kings icon Sabbir Rahman has hit the first hundred of Bangladesh Premier League T20 2016. He slammed 122 runs with 200 strike rate against Barisal Bulls in Dhaka. But he could not get his side go over the line.
Rajshahi Kings were set a target of 193 runs in 20 overs. They lost Raqibul Islam in the first over in their chase. Local Rajshahi boy Sabbir Rahman came into the crease to have a go. He started hitting the bowlers all over the parks. He was dropped by Al-Amin Hossain on 14.

Sabbir used his chance very nicely and scored his fifty in 26 balls with 3 fours and 4 sixes. He was getting more aggressive. He and Samit Patel put on 68-run partnership for the fourth wicket where he himself scored most of the runs.

Sabbir brought up his maiden T20 century off 53 balls. From 87, he hit two sixes, a dot and a double to reach his ton. He becomes the fifth Bangladeshi to score a hundred in Twenty20 cricket. Shahriar Nafees, Mohammad Ashraful, Anamul Haque Bijoy and Tamim Iqbal (2) did it before him.

The hard-hitter’s innings ended at 122 from 61 deliveries. He had 9 fours and 9 sixes in his innings. Sabbir Rahman is the seventh batsman to score a hundred in BPL, third as Bangladeshi and first in this year. His 122 is the highest individual score in BPL.

Sabbir took his side close to victory. Rajshahi Kings lost the match by a very narrow margin of four runs. Though Rajshahi lost, Sabbir was named Man of the Match for his magnificent knock.
